Cloud forest, volcano and two Pacific coasts
My first trip to Costa Rica, and what an experience! It is one of the few countries I have travelled to where the fauna is so present and blended into everyday life. Wherever we went we could see pelicans, parrots, monkeys, toucans… it was quite exhilarating to be so consistently in their presence. The long black-sand beaches bordered by palm trees are also something I remember quite vividly; we would walk along them at sunset and enjoy the sound of the waves and the soft warmth of the declining sun.
It was the first time I took my film camera on a longer trip. I think the black-and-white photos have more of a wow effect to them. I used the Retro 80S film, which is a high-contrast film that I fell in love with after that trip. It also has less grain than most films, so it looks less “outdated” than some of the colour pictures.
